COLOMBO HOUSE

1 Ferry Road, Teddington, Middlesex

Colombo House

The family Colombo from Cassano D’Adda near Milan, made a gift of a large house which had once been a private school in Ferry Road not far from Westminster House and in 1965 the house was acquired to be a residential school for mentally handicapped children.  As the children became young adults they would transfer to the Molesey Venture residential home in East Molesey.

Malcolm Muggeridge
Malcolm Muggeridge was a great friend of Fr. Bidone and enjoyed visiting Colombo House and being with the children. This picture was taken in July 1971.

Colombo Sisters

The house was called Colombo House in memory of
Angelo Colombo who was tragically killed in Italy in December 1961.

This picture shows Mrs. Regina Colombo and Miss Bianca Colombo in the house with a picture in memory of Angelo.

In May 1998 Colombo House ceased to care for children with learning disabilities because of a change of policy on the part of the local authorities which meant there was a reduction in demand for the service and it proved difficult to cover the cost of continuing to run the service.  The Sons still have the house and plans are being formulated at present for its continued use.
